Richard Scott D. Thorpe holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Utah State University, a MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley, and a JD from the S. J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah. He has extensive experience in both creating and defeating intellectual property protection. Mr. Thorpe has organized intellectual property consortia, created agreements for the sharing and development of intellectual property, directed the development of industry standards, and promoted and marketed cooperative intellectual property.

Mr. Thorpe has an extensive technical background, from building rocket payloads, designing robots and parallel processing computers, and writing and database software. He has also led the development of significant semiconductor and storage device-based products, and served as a principal technical contact to semiconductor fabs, LCD fabs, semiconductor companies, and Microsoft.

Mr. Thorpe has studied Chinese intellectual property law and commercial law at Ren Min University in Beijing, and has made a personal study of Chinese intellectual property law practice. He speaks and reads Chinese.

Mr. Thorpe is the author of How to Think Like Einstein and Revolutionary Strategies of the Founding Fathers and is a frequent media commentator on Albert Einstein and the American Revolution. He also speaks and leads seminars on fostering creativity, innovation, and problem solving skills. Mr. Thorpe is an avid skier, mountain biker, and sometime triathlete.
