New Associates/Lateral Attorneys
KNMT is interested in highly qualified attorneys who are proactive, innovative thinkers. For patent prosecution, a technical background is required. Excellent candidates who are interested in IP work but lack technical degrees may be considered for trademark, copyright, and litigation work.
In addition to the standard law-review types, which are always welcome, we are interested in attorneys who have gone off the beaten path, excelling in industry, business, and the like. Several of our attorneys attended law school later in life after a career in engineering or another area.
We offer very competitive salaries in a work environment that is focused on high-quality work and excellent service to clients without sacrificing lifestyle. We have structured our firm such that each attorney can choose for himself, within limits, how aggressive or relaxed he/she would like to be in hours billed and paid, a model that has proven to be highly successful.
Patent Agent/Technical Consultants
We are primarily interested in patent agents and technical consultants in the electrical engineering/software engineering areas, though excellent candidates in other areas such as chemical engineering, bio-chemical engineering, and physics will also be cheerfully considered.
Prior work experience is helpful but not required. We offer a variety of work assignments to keep our agents and consultants challenged and intellectually stimulated.
Summer Associates
We do not create an artificial work or social environment for summer associates; summer associates are thrown right into the mix, gaining hands-on experience with real projects that are used in court proceedings or USPTO filings. We hire only summer associates who are proactive and motivated to begin laying the foundations of building their own practices; this attitude is rewarded with thorough and excellent training. Many summer associates continue working with the firm part-time during their second/third years, with the result that they hit the ground running upon graduation.
That being said, summers (all year round, really) are fun at the firm. We have several outings a year, bicycling, snowmobiling, rock climbing, and otherwise taking advantage of Utah’s outdoor and cultural environment.
Administrative Staff
Our administrative staff comprises dynamic and innovative individuals who are interested in taking an active role in assisting the attorneys in their work. If you are a self-starter, proficient in administrative tasks, enjoy gaining responsibility as your knowledge increases, and having a say on how to make things run more efficiently, you’re our candidate.
