Ronald N. Hilton is a registered patent agent, who has also enjoyed a successful career as an inventor and entrepreneur. He graduated summa cum laude from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 1978 and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1980 with an emphasis in digital design. He has been admitted to practice by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Hilton worked for Amdahl Corporation in mainframe computer development from 1980 to 1999, with increasing responsibility in the area of high-speed cache memory design. He was the overall technical lead for Amdahl's last and highly successful ECL-based system, the 12-way 5995M, and then served as a performance architect for subsequent CMOS-based systems. Lastly, he pioneered emulation-based systems using industry-standard microprocessors.
Mr. Hilton founded Platform Solutions, Inc. (PSI) in 1999 as a spin-out from Amdahl Corporation to further pursue open-architecture emulation-based mainframes capable of running both legacy and emerging operating systems on standard Intel hardware. As CTO he continued to guide the development of the technology into a product line which was enthusiastically received by large enterprise-class customers.
Mr. Hilton holds a number of patents from his work at both Amdahl and PSI, and left PSI in 2007 to pursue his interests as an independent inventor. PSI was successfully acquired by IBM as a wholly-owned subsidiary in 2008. As a patent agent Mr. Hilton is now able to bring the benefit of his considerable experience to both corporate and independent inventors. He and his wife Melissa have six sons, and as a family enjoy Scouting and a variety of outdoor activities together. Mr. Hilton is fluent in Italian and holds a minor in Spanish.
