Alan L. Edwards earned his law degree from Duke University, with a bachelor's in physics and master's in communications from Utah State University. He joined K&M in 2005, working previously at intellectual property firms in New York City and Salt Lake City, as well as a stint as a newspaper reporter at the Salt Lake-based Deseret News.  He is experienced in all aspects of intellectual property law, focusing primarily on litigation, complex patent and trademark prosecution, Internet domain names, counterfeiting, licensing, and confidentiality/trade secrets. He has counseled clients ranging from individual inventors to Fortune 500 companies such as General Electric and General Motors, and has been lead counsel in several patent, trademark, and copyright court disputes.

Mr. Edwards has been a member of the board of the National Congress of Inventor Organizations and has presented at conferences including the International Federation of Inventor Associations at the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. He is a member of various professional organizations and is admitted to practice before the courts of Utah and New York, the U.S. District Courts of Utah, Colorado, and Northern New York, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Edwards' technical experience includes researching space structures, superconductors, and atmospheric phenomena at the Center for Atmospheric and Space Sciences in Logan, Utah, as well as computer modeling of oil well logging tools - particularly neutron-emission tools - at Schlumberger Well Services in Houston, Texas, writing original code as well as adapting established probability programs such as Monte Carlo. He has made a careful study of the Utah cold fusion debacle as well as technical aspects and non-technical consequences of research toward controllable nuclear fusion in general. He has extensive experience in legal and non-legal writing and is conversant in Spanish, having lived in Spain for two years as an LDS proselyting missionary.

In his spare time, Mr. Edwards enjoys biking, camping, rock climbing, soccer, skiing, yoga, playing and listening to music, and traveling with his wife and three daughters.
